The singer-songwriter is a big star in her native Canada and is “super excited” to be playing in Hastings especially after finding out that Hastings is the birth place of the great Canadian conservationist Grey Owl.

Grey Owl saw out the end of his days in Allison’s native Saskatchewan, so she feels it is fitting to be making this pilgrimage.

Artistry and virtuosity make her band’s performances thrilling and fun, and Mojo Magazine said: “Once famously described as possessing a style akin to ‘Elton John meets Edith Piaf’, the Canadian singer-songwriter Allison Crowe is renowned for her ability to blend control and melodrama.” She’s brought down the house opening for Carol Ann Duffy, Britain’s Poet Laureate, and Sir Peter Maxwell Davies, the Master of the Queen’s Music, has toured with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet and cameos in the Hollywood Superman blockbuster Man of Steel. Her “supernaturally agile and exquisite voice” fuses with her piano, guitar, fiddle, and bodhran-playing and the sounds of cellist Celine Greb (from Germany), multi-instrumentalist Sarah White (out of Newfoundland, Canada), and bassist Dave Baird (Vancouver Island, BC).

The band’s hybrid of Canadiana, Celtic, jazz, roots, folk, soul and rock mix originals with fresh interpretations of classics by such artists as Leonard Cohen, and The Beatles. The gig is on Saturday April 16 from 7.30pm and tickets cost £14, available from Hastings Tourist Information, MusicGlue.com and on the door.
