The musical freedom and intensity of Chantal Acda

Currently based in Belgium, Dutch-born tunesmith Chantal Acda is on her way to Bexhill to play live in the De La Warr Pavilion cafe bar on Thursday May 19.

She has worked under the Sleepingdog moniker since 2006, making three acclaimed albums that closed on the With Our Heads in the Clouds and Our Hearts in the Fields album and touring extensively both in Europe and North America.

Her latest solo album is The Sparkle In Our Flaws: she had already worked with Peter Broderick and Shahzad Ismaily so decided to turn to them again for a new collection of songs which she had written inbetween touring on her first album, and on which she wanted to explore the musical freedom she felt with them. Besides Peter and Shahzad, there are contributions from Valgeir Sigurdsson, Heather Woods Broderick, Niels Van Heertum and Eric Thielemans. Tickets £14 or £10.50, on 01424 229111 or www.dlwp.com
