The event, devised by local resident Polo Piatti, began on Thursday in All Saints Church with an evening of Japanese music, including one act opera Otohime by Nobuya Monta.

This is followed by a grand opening concert tonight in St Mary in the Castle. The Festival moves to the De La Warr Pavilion in Bexhill for the whole of tomorrow (Saturday), with a 10.30am concert followed by a talk by author and film-maker Phil Grabsky. Music-lovers can attend an open rehearsal in the afternoon before the concert at 7.30 pm, a Feast of Film Music, including composer Stephen Warbeck with his theme music for Captain Corelli’s Mandolin.
