ESPS is in Seaside Road, St Leonards. The artwork will be on display from July 3-24 from Fridays to Sundays between 1-5pm.

This is the artist’s second project in St Leonards and is running concurrently with Hortus, an ambitious installation at The SPACE, in St Johns Road. One visitor described Hortus as “thoughtful, witty and relevant.”

Lignes De Fuite is an extension of the outdoor project and at ESPS, the artist has introduced an observational device which analyses electrochemical events within the root system of the anarchic plants (weeds?) colonising The SPACE.

In Lignes De Fuite, Lemonnier brings together elements including plant resins – pine and acacia, artistic fictions – gold resin and dragon blood (bloodroot), two digital registers, 21097 and 211154, and two isolators.

Christine Gist, artist/curator who has worked with the artist since the mid 1990s, commented: “Lemonnier’s work always has a complexity of elements which are interconnected and multi-faceted. The installations often suggest a scientific analysis, an archival system which crosses the boundaries between alchemy and visual practice, all mixed with humour,”

Lemonnier is a lecturer at École Supérieure d’Art et Design Le Havre/Rouen, who exhibits in France and has had previous shows in the UK, Canada and Germany.

Christine added: “This is the first time that Guy Lemonnier has worked in St Leonards and his outdoor installation is attracting attention from local residents and passers-by, they are often surprised by what artists create for the site. We hope the exhibition at Electro Studios will be equally intriguing, it will be worth a visit. As Guy lives and works in Normandy, it’s appropriate that his exhibitions are in 1066 Country during 2016 – the 950th anniversary of the Battle of Hastings.”

Lignes De Fuite is supported using public funding from The National Lottery through Arts Council England, Hastings Borough Council and East Sussex Arts Partnership.
