Rye Jazz & Blues Festival line-up

If you haven’t decided what to do this August bank holiday weekend then make your way to Rye where you can soak up the wonderful vibrant atmosphere of one of a diverse and brilliant musical event.

The Rye International Jazz and Blues Festival presents an array of world class acts featuring the very best in jazz and blues but also soul, R&B, funk, Latin and World Music.

Headline acts include Paul Jones and the Blues Band, national treasure Wilko Johnson, jazz singer James Tormé, the UK’s number 1 male jazz singer Ian Shaw, charismatic singer Clare Teal, Mercury prize nominated GoGo Penguin, jazz singer and pianist Theo Jackson, blues voice Jo Harman, US Soul Diva Avery*Sunshine, the Neil Angilley Jazz trio, and Cuban band Son Yambu.

The organisers are proud to introduce Chapter & Lyric, an educational and inspirational music program for young and emerging artists.

This is being staged in the National Trust property Lamb House and also includes a masterclass by Liane Carroll.

There will be free music performances throughout Rye over the weekend for all to enjoy including the amazing and edgy New Orleans marching band the Fat Tuesday 2nd Line who perform in the afternoon on Saturday August 29 - watch out as a trail of spectators follow them all around town.

The Butter Market beneath Rye Town Hall plays host to outstanding free live music events where you experience great jazz, blues, roots and an amazing Ukulele band called the Brillos. The Carter Burton Trio perform cool summer jazz on Saturday afternoon outside with dancing in the streets by the Cinque Ports Lindy Hoppers.

The festival presents intimate performances within the ballroom at the George - pianist and singer Dom Pipkin and the Ikos, Kitty LaRoar and the Lucky Victims, and Herbie Flowers. The festival programme also includes a number of superb cinematic screenings at newly opened Kino Cinema in Rye where you can take in movies that include Mahajan, Ray and the Dream girls.

The festival closes with a party at the Spectrum jazz lounge with the Dirty Martini Swing Band an eight piece outfit of top quality professional musicians who will be performing their own unique blend of Jazz, soul, funk and swing.
