Sidley WI - June 20

THE meeting on Friday, June 13 was extra busy as we heard the report from our delegate, Louise Hobson; on her experiences at the NCM in Liverpool.

The resolution concerning the inappropriate imprisonment of the severely mentally ill was carried by a vast majority. However the resolution to ban bottom trawling caused an amount of controversy and was not carried. Mrs. Hobson gave us a brief resume of the rest of the meeting with amusing anecdotes heard from one of the guest speakers, Sandi Toksvig.

After reports from our sub-sections members were encouraged to join a new section being planned for walkers (or gentle strollers!).

Our speaker was Mrs. I.Bruce, an experienced florist, who brought along roses, carnations and greenery to create three beautiful displays which were then raffled. She answered many queries about the problems we all seem to meet on the health and preservation of house plants.

Meetings are held each month at 2.15pm at the Sidley Community Centre. Visitors and new members will be welcome. For more details please ring the secretary on 01424 218076.
