Special Coastal Currents edition of Dear Serge in DLWP

Named after one of the forward-thinking architects of the De La Warr Pavilion, Dear Serge is an afternoon and evening of eclectic live performances running from 2pm to 10pm.

Playing on loop in the auditorium throughout the event will be One Minute volume 7, a film series curated by Kerry Baldry.

Each piece is constrained to one minute and the film makers range from the established (Guy Sherwin, Tony Hill, John Smith, Katherine Meynell) to newcomers.

Clare Whistler will be performing a piece entitled Do Buildings Have Memories? around the building at 2pm and 4pm.

After being Artist In residence at the DLWP (1996-2001) Clare reflects on the residency with the realisation that she is overwhelmed with memories, which led to the title of this piece.

Christina Yeo-O’Clarey will be giving a multimedia live performance, Canis Lupus and the Logic of Pink Icing, at 3pm, 5pm, 7pm and 9pm.

Each 25-minute performance uses sound, costume and props in an intimate setting, to weave together notions of motherhood, feminine identity and the wilderness.

The performer chats to us as she pegs some clothes to a washing line on which are hung two huge photographic prints of herself and her dog.

In a domestic den, seated at a table, the five audience members are told about the Wolf and its ability to recover an ecosystem in crisis and how scientists are planning a reintroduction of this creature that evokes fear and a history of prejudice, to the wilds of Scotland.

In the evening there will be performances from Lorah Pierre and Ewa Justka (light/noise performance), from 7.30pm.

Avant garde rock duo Speak Galactic consisting of Owen Thomas (guitar/electronics/ vocals) and Jim Morrison (drums) and compared to Deerhunter and Animal Collective will perform at 8.15pm.

Progressive, original and spurred on by innovation, this duo will play live on the bandstand

A From Pier to Eternity illuminated bike ride will travel from Hastings Pier along the coastal cycle route to the De La Warr Pavilion for the event.

Meet at 7pm at Hastings Pier with your decorated bike and ride to Dear Serge.
