The laughs will keep on coming in comedy fest
No less than 60 comedians will perform in seven different venues in Hastings Old Town as part of an exciting venture dreamed up by two local residents.
They will include top names as well as newcomers and the shows will take place in the Albion, Whistle Trago, The Pump House, The Anchor, Dragon Bark, The Jenny Lind and VIP Blackmarket.
The event will begin on Thursday June 23 and the laughs will just keep on coming until Saturday June 25.
Every show is free entry, except for a ticketed charity night which will take place on Friday evening.
The comedians are mainly professional circuit comedians - most of whom will be performing performing their Edinburgh Fringe preview shows.
There will also be new comedy artists who are “extremely funny” and talented who will be looking to make their mark on the circuit.
The event is being organised by Jake Alexander and Chris Young.
Jake commented: “We have comedians that have made numerous TV appearances such as Australian Comic Brendon Burns, comedians that have written and performed on BBC Radio 4.
We have such a diverse range of comedy there will be something for everyone to enjoy.
The idea came about last summer. Chris Young, my friend and colleague, and also a stand-up comedian, approached me with an idea to create Hastings first Comedy Fringe. I was on board instantly and over the coming months Chris networked and booked the comedians while we confirmed venues, and promoted the Fringe to anyone we could.
We now have 60 confirmed comedians in eight venues over the three days, a newcomer competition plus family friendly comedy happening on Butlers Gap in George Street on Saturday afternoon.
We are both local and are very passionate about giving something back to the community, which is why every show is free. The event has already a huge buzz, not just in Hastings but in London, Brighton and throughout the comedy circuit.”
Apart from Brendon Burns, the headliners include President Obonjo, Eleanor Conway, Doug Segal, Abi Roberts and Faye Treacy.
