That voodoo that you can do this Halloween

Conceived by the same people behind Fat Tuesday, Hastings Voodoo Fest has established itself as the spookiest gig in town.

Organiser Bob Tipler explained: “We have so many amazing events in Hastings and St Leonards that it just seemed a good idea to come up with a season closing event to celebrate this - much as Fat Tuesday opens the festival season by being the first out of the box in the New Year. It’s all just a bit a fun really.”

The programme starts at 2pm on Saturday October 31 when the hilariously named 1066 Walk Of The Dead will see a mass of Zombies meeting at the pier and staggering to the Old Town - this event is free to enter.

“Early evening we will have our customary pub crawl with a New Orleans style Jazz band and a coffin borne by a clown, morris dancer, pirate and bonfire boy respectively all representing some of the towns major events. Then we head off to the magnificent setting of St Mary In The Castle for the main event,” said Bob. This year Voodoo Fest has achieved the coup of booking London’s mighty Urban Voodoo Machine, a 12 piece with a sound somewhere between the Clash, Nick Cave and John Lee Hooker all done with a heavy dose of theatricals. Also leading the ceremony will be Doctor Savage and the Fat Tuesday 2nd Line, and The Ingrid Pitt Orchestra. DJs Wendy May (ex presenter of The Tube) and JakeB keep the music spinning to the early hours.
