No Southern trains as driver strike continues

Rail passengers are being advised not to travel today as the train driver strikes continue.

It is the last day of three strikes this week by members of train drivers’ union Aslef, who walked out at 00.01am on Tuesday.

The other 24-hour strikes took place on Tuesday and Wednesday.

As a result, rail operator Govia Thameslink Railway have told passengers not to travel today as there will be no Southern trains, or to work from home or drive if possible.

The dispute about driver-only trains and the role of conductors has thus far been between Southern Rail operator Govia Thameslink Railway and conductors led by the RMT union, but this is the first strike by Aslef drivers.

This third strike comes after peace talks aimed at resolving the dispute ended without agreement yesterday.

Talks between the Aslef union and the rail operator failed to reach a deal.
