Rother District Council’s planning committee agreed to let people use the pitch for an extra six hours on a Saturday and from 10am to 4pm on Sundays.

Two acoustic barriers will be erected around the north and south sides of the pitch to reduce the impact of noise on residents.

Some councillors and 22 objection letters were concerned about allowing it to be used on a Sunday which they believed should be a day of rest.

“I believe my residents deserve a day of rest from the noise. Sports activities are great for young people but there needs to be a balance with residents,” Cllr Charles Clark said.

Beforehand, the pitch is only allowed to be used until 2pm on a Saturday and until 7pm on weekdays in July and August.

The college asked for the hours be extended to 10pm Monday to Saturday and from 9am to 7pm on Sundays.

But no light survey was submitted to justify the extra 30 minutes, and officers said they reached a comprise with 10am to 4pm on Sundays, until 9.30pm all year on weekdays and until 8pm on a Saturday.
