After exams were disrupted due to the Covid-19 pandemic, students received grades based on their teacher’s assessment of their capabilities, a departure from the Government’s policy of last week which saw A-level grades initially being based on the much-publicised standardisation algorithm.

Buckswood said 19 subjects had 100 per cent pass rates with 93 per cent of English results being 4 or higher, 84 per cent for mathematics and 82 per cent in science.

The Guestling school said 86 per cent of results were grade C (4) or higher which is 14 per cent higher than last year.

Almost one third of grades awarded were A (7) or higher and over two thirds of students gained at least a 4 in all of their GCSEs.

The school said top performers included Anna with two grade 9s, one grade 8, one A* and one A grade; Luka – two grade 8s, one A* and one A and Gabriel who scored two grade 8s and three grade 7s.

Michael Shaw, co-principal, said: “After a turbulent few days, with much national publicity about the handling of results, we are delighted our students have been rewarded for all their hard work with appropriate grades.

“There have been some outstanding individual results from both our UK and international students and particularly pleasing results in the core subjects of English and mathematics.

“Our students can now look forward to September, which will see many of them commence their A-level or IB studies at the school. A huge well done to our students and their teachers.”
