Looking back 10 years to school’s winter wonderland

Ninfield CE School near Battle was transformed into a winter wonderland in February 2011 and pupils and staff were able to enjoy an ice skating rink in the playground for the day. All pupils had the opportunity to have a skate throughout the day, with staff joining in the fun. It was the first time for many and all the children and staff did very well, the school reported.

The rink was then opened up to the community after school and into the evening, with additional attractions including fairground rides, a bouncy castle, sweet stall, tombola, raffle and hot food. Our photographer Steve Hunnisett captured the scene, including Freya and Ethan Johns in their roller skates, families finding their feet together on the ice and small children enjoying the fairground rides.

Head teacher Christopher Brown said at the time: “This was a lovely day for the school and my thanks go to those that helped to make it a successful event. It was nice to see so many people enjoying themselves. The evening has helped to raise approximately £800 towards school funds.”
