Looking back to safety lessons at Horsham’s Drill Hall in 2011

This week we look back to safety lessons at Horsham’s Drill Hall in 2011.

Our reporter wrote the following at the time:

Youngsters from across the Horsham area have been learning how to stay safe and responsible in situations they could face in real life.

The annual Junior Citizen event is being held this week at The Drill Hall in Denne Road, Horsham.

It is open to all Year Six pupils in the Horsham district. The initiative has been running for 16 years and is organised by Horsham District Council and partner organisations.

It teaches local children how to recognise all kinds of potentially dangerous situations, gives advice on what to do and also helps them learn valuable life skills to encourage responsible citizenship.

Around 1,000 ten to 11-yearolds from 31 schools from all over the district are taking part in the week-long event, where they learn about road safety, the dangers of electricity, first aid, recycling, reducing energy use, safety in the kitchen, personal safety, fire safety and safety in the home.
