Director Jenny Miller brings her expertise to the company this spring following a critically acclaimed version of The Magic Flute for Longborough

Festival Opera.

Having performed at Glyndebourne, Covent Garden and Scottish Opera, Jenny is no stranger to the very best quality productions.

Along with her considerable directing skills, she continues to embrace her own professional singing, a strong teaching studio in London and she has co-founded a new experimental opera company, Barefoot Opera.

Kenneth Roberts once again conducts The Sussex Concert Orchestra and professional soloists Ian Parrett, Peter Grevatt and Toby Sims will be joined by talented newcomer Luci Briginshaw, as Leila, in her debut with the company.

This exotic story explores the dilemma of a love triangle between two men, Zurga and Nadir, who are friends, in competition for the same woman, Leila.

A choice has to be made. One of the two men has to give way.

The chorus-dominated opera, set in a time and place where superstition and terror evoke passion and ritual, in a lush and dramatic score shows a primitive community who live in fear of the elements, and their dangerous existence points up the heroism and the tribalism of the characters.

They have Gods they must appease, as their lives are dangerous and the elements can easily destroy them.

They live dangerously and are dangerous, as they will kill to appease the Gods.

This new production with the memorable and ever popular duet is a treat not to be missed.
