Whirlwind dance journey at Stables

Preview: Flight 52/12 - A journey through the Jubilee years, The Stables Theatre, The Bourne. June 22 and 23. £10 (£7.50 concs).

It will take audiences on a roller-coaster ride through the six decades of the Queen’s reign, focusing on events which have affected or influenced the world in that time.

More than 40 performers will take part in dance numbers, musical theatre and acted scenes, including 10 of the cutest five-year-olds in the district performing Singing in the Rain and the whole company performing a foot-stomping version of Aquarius from the musical, Hair.

One of the dramatic highlights will be a commemoration of New York’s 9/11 tragedy in contemporary dance.

Viv, who runs Dance Moves in Bexhill, said: “It’s going to be a whirlwind journey through the last 60 years, so you’d better fasten your safety belts.

“I’ve taken my inspiration from iconic events, people and styles of the jubilee decades, so it’s going to be a whole lot more than just another dance show.”

Viv is an associate member of the International Dance Teachers’ Association and started Dance Moves some five years ago because she wanted to pass on her love of dance and theatre to others.

She runs the school in her spare time while holding down a busy, full-time job as a Bexhill school business manager, and along with classes in tap, contemporary dance and musical theatre, her young adult performance group “The Company” focuses on contemporary dance theatre.

She said: “My dream is to open my own dance and performing arts studio.”
