40 years of faithful service

FORTY years faithful service with never a day sick - that's the remarkable record of Sainsbury store worker Corinne Bailey.

Corinne says it is the comradeship that has made working at Sainsburys such a happy experience.

Colleagues gathered in the Bexhill store's staff room on Wednesday to support her as Corinne received thanks and congratulations of her bosses.

There was a surprise lunch in store for her with Bucks Fizz, flowers and a gift from her manager Niki Adams.

Corinne began working for Sainsburys in Purley in 1976, moving to Bexhill in 1976 to work in the Buckhurst Place store.

Store manager Richard Hay told colleagues that Corinne had received a personal letter from Sainsbury retail director Ken McMeikan thanking her for her contribution to the firm over 40 years and for her hard work and commitment to the firm.

He believes her length of service and the fact that she has never taken a day off sick is a lesson to the rising generation.

He told Corinne: "When you started I wasn't even thought of!"

Niki Adams thanked Corinne for her loyal service. "You have never had a day off sick in 40 years. You are multi-skillled. You are willing to work anywhere."

Asked what made working for the firm so special, Corrine said: "It's the comradeship, the social life. Everyone has been so nice...

"I would like to thank all my friends at Bexhill for their kindness and support while working at Sainsburys."

Corinne has been invited to attend a special dinner in London to say thank you to her for her valued service
