Celebrating their amazing 70th wedding anniversary on Tuesday January 20 were Dora and Richard St Clair of Cooden Drive.

Their platinum day was made even sweeter by the arrival of their first great great grandchild, a baby boy, on Sunday.

The pair, both 91, enjoyed a party and get-together with family - they have two daughters, four grandchildren, and five great grandchildren as well.

They met during the war and set up home in Hitchin, Hertfordshire where Dick joined the police force after service in the Navy and Dora raised their girls Deirdre and Maureen while working in a variety of jobs including the School Meals Service.

Formerly hoteliers in Eastbourne, Dora accompanies Dick to meetings of the Tuesday Club (Hastings and Rother Voluntary Association for the Blind), and they have been regular visitors to Blind Veterans UK (St Dunstans) in Brighton.

They retired in Eastbourne first then came to Bexhill around 1994. They enjoy a daily crossword, puzzles and company of their family.

Maureen said: “They have been very devoted. Father always did anything for anybody, and mother has always been a good home-maker.”
