Plucky pensioner Betty Poplett will be showing a clean pair of heels as she walks over hot embers in a hotly-anticipated charity event.

Brave Betty, 87, from Bexhill, will be putting her best foot forward once again for the St Michael’s Hospice bi-annual fire walk on Saturday April 18.

The event will be held at the Hastings and Bexhill Rugby Club in Hastings.

This will be Betty’s fifth fire walk for the hospice and she is encouraging fellow residents of Hastings and Rother to join in the fun and walk barefoot across a bed of hot embers.

Betty said: “The hospice fire walk is always such a lively event with a great atmosphere and a brilliant camaraderie amongst the fire walkers. Walking on fire gives you such a great sense of achievement.”

The evening is set to be a roaring success with live music from Section 5 Drummers and Jiggery Pokery, a grand fireworks finale provided by Fireworks Connections and face painting.

Marcia Dart, fundraising team leader at St Michael’s Hospice, said: “We are calling out to individuals, companies and groups of friends to take on this hot and daring challenge and walk barefoot across a bed of hot embers.

“The fire walk will be a fantastic evening; not only is it great fun for all our brave participants, but it’s also a great event to watch.

“Bring your friends along for support and enjoy a great evening of live entertainment.”

The St Michael’s Hospice fire walk is proudly sponsored by Swift-lite Charcoal.

The £10 a head registration fee includes full training on the night.

A licensed bar and food will also be available.
