A27 roadworks resume after New Year break

Drainage improvement work on the A27 between Lancing and Shoreham resumed on Monday as part of a scheme to alleviate flooding on the road. The work is being carried out through a combination of daytime and overnight work to keep delays to a minimum. Two lands will be kept open in each direction during peak times.

Overnight, the A27 will be closed in both directions between Busticle Lane and the Manor Road roundabout from 8pm and 6am, with a fully-signed diversion via the A259 and A2025.

Further west on the A27, there are drainage improvements to the Chichester Bypass with narrow lanes and a 40mph speed restriction in place 24 hours a day and overnight lane closures between 8pm and 6am each night.

Elsewhere the A23 Handcross to Warninglid widening scheme continues with a reduced 40mph speed limit and narrow lanes in place 24 hours a day.

The northbound exit and entry slip roads are currently closed at Warninglid until mid-March 2013 to allow a new roundabout to be constructed. Road users will be directed to follow a fully signed diversion to the next junction.

Other major works:

A23 drainage improvements: Drainage improvement work on the A23 between the B2116 bridge near Hurstpierpoint and Brighton. The work will be carried out using overnight lane closures on the A23 with a 50mph speed limit in place. There will be some overnight slip road closures at the Dale Hill southbound entry slip road and at the South Downs Way northbound entry slip road. When these closures are in place, road users will follow short, fully signed diversion routes via the A23 to a nearby alternative junction. Work will take place between 8pm and 6am each night, Monday to Friday, and is expected to be complete by the end of March, weather permitting.

A27 Falmer technical repairs: Repairs to faulty street lights along the A27 near Falmer between 8pm and 6am each night. While work is being carried out, lanes on each carriageway will be closed, with occasional lane closures on slip roads too. When work is being carried out at certain locations, the A27 between the slip roads will be closed, with a short, fully signed diversion across the junction interchange. Work is expected to be complete by the end of the month.

A259 Rye street lighting renewals: Work to install new street lights along the A259 in Rye started on Monday. New lanterns are being installed on existing lighting columns to prolong the life of the existing streetlights and reduce the need for future aintenance, as well as providing more energy efficient, brighter lighting. The work will take place between the roundabout at the A268 Wish Street (Kettle of Fish Roundabout) and the roundabout at A268 Fishmarket Road (Skinners Roundabout). One lane of the A259 will be closed while work is carried out, with traffic escorted past the work site by a convoy vehicle. The work will take place between 8pm and 6am each night, and is expected to take one week to complete.

A259 Bexhill footway repairs: Work to resurface the footway next to the westbound A259 between Warwick Road and Chandler Road in Bexhill-on-Sea started on Monday and is expected to be complete by Friday. One lane of the westbound A259 will be closed between 8pm and 6am, with temporary traffic lights in place.

A27 Arundel footway resurfacing: Work to resurface approximately 45 metres of footway next to the eastbound A27 on the its approach to the Ford roundabout in Arundel, West Sussex will start on Wednesday 9 January and is expected to be complete by Friday. One lane of the eastbound roundabout approach will be narrowed between 9.30am and 3.30pm each day, and the bus stop, lay-by, and adjacent footway will be temporarily closed while work is being carried out. Pedestrians will be escorted through the work site by site staff.
