Anger at rail fares hike

BEXHILL Rail Action Group (BRAG) has reacted angrily to the news that rail fares are set to rise.

A spokesperson for the town’s commuters’ group said: “BRAG is dismayed by the announcement of further inflation-busting fare increases at a time when everybody’s living standards are being eroded.”

“Commuters and other passengers travelling at peak times will be hit the hardest.

“This action threatens both to price many people out of their jobs, and to reverse the growth in rail travel that we have seen in recent years.”

• Last week the Office of National Statistics announced that regulated fares are to increase by eight per cent from January 2012.
