Arsonists are likely to be responsible for the savage blaze which devastated the Sidley Sports and Social Club building over the weekend.

Eight crews from East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service were called to the scene just after 10.20pm on Saturday (February 28).

Twelve firefighters tackled the blaze, which spread to the roof and caused severe damage to the building.

Crews remained on the scene overnight, damping down and checking for hot spots to ensure the fire did not reignite.

Following an investigation, ESFRS has said the it was ‘most likely’ that the fire had been started deliberately.
