ASBO breach man abused police at Bexhill train station

Dean Walker, 23, of Park Farm Close was banned from using abusive language in public or being drunk in public anywhere in Sussex and Kent when an anti-social behaviour order was imposed on December 9 last year.

The order also prevented him from being on the platform of any railway station in Sussex and Kent without holding a valid ticket.

Walker appeared at Hastings Magistrates Court last week facing a number of charges.

He pleaded guilty to breaching his ASBO by drinking from an open can and guilty to resisting arrest. He pleaded not guilty to a charge of threatening behaviour.

The court heard how police had questioned Walker at Bexhill railway station on November 16 in relation to a knife-point robbery they were investigating.

Mark Kateley, prosecuting, said: “He became very abusive to police officers, threatening them and calling them “bacon”.

“He has a lengthy list of convictions for drunken behaviour and public order offences. He breached his ASBO almost as soon as it was imposed and was sentenced to 12 weeks in prison in January. He breached it again in March and was sentenced to 126 days.”

Aiden Harvey, defending, said: “He was simply standing on the platform at Bexhill station when police searched him. No knife was found.

“Then he was arrested on suspicion of a robbery of which he says he knows nothing about whatsoever.

“He was trying to protest his innocence and perhaps went a litle over the top.”

Magistrates sentenced Walker to 18 weeks in prison telling him: “You have a history of total disregard for court orders and a history of violent offences. No sooner were you released from prison than these offences were committed.

“You have breached your ASBO eight times and your behaviour can only be described as shameful and abhorrent.”
