Best football forward at Bexhill College

Bexhill College 1st and 2nd XI football teams are both chasing glory as their respective seasons gather momentum in the Sussex Colleges League.

The College's first team have won the 1st XI Eastern division having gone through all their league games unbeaten. They play BHASVIC, the runners up from the West Sussex division, at home, for a place in the final.

The second string also topped their table, in the 2nd XI section, having only lost once in the entire campaign. They also look forward to facing the runners up from West Sussex, this time in a quarter final.

There are a few key factors behind the success of the 1st team as coach Rob Wratten explained: "We've done well this season because we've played as a team. There's a good blend of 1st and 2nd year students. We have some fantastic individuals but they've all been up for it collectively."

That sentiment is backed up by the fact that nearly every outfield player has been on the scoresheet so far this year, as Rob continued "A big part of year's success has been our ability to score freely.

Most of our players have found the target this season and our top scorer, Luke Newman, has managed 15 in 10 games. Add that to a talented but hard working midfield and a disciplined back four and it's easy to see why we're doing well."

Rob also wanted to acknowledge teaching assistant Doug Bick who has played a big role this term and said "Doug has been fantastic this year. He really knows his football and he sees things both in the players and what's happening during a game that have really made a difference."

The second team are also enjoying their season, and coach Sean Noble was full of praise for his side's efforts so far this term: "They've have developed a good team spiritwith an attitude to keep playing good football while giving 100%. We've had some outstanding performances from individual players such as Rory Mcgrath, Sonny Kirten and Alex Williams while Theo Barrett has skippered the side brilliantly.

"We are confident of qualifying for the semi finals, however giving up home advantage will make it extremely tough but I know the lads will give it a real go. The one defeat we have suffered was a real disappointment and has been the only time the team has let themselves down but they have gelled extremely well in such a short space of time."

Good luck to both teams in their forthcoming ties and in keeping the dream of this unique double alive.
