Ryan Crouch, aged six, together with his friends, undertook a five-mile walk along Eastbourne seafront on Sunday (September 30) in aid of Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH).

He was moved to help the hospital after seeing the sick children there.

Ryan’s baby brother Elliott underwent eye surgery at the hospital. His family realised something was wrong with one of his eyes when he was four weeks old. Mum Karlene said doctors found Elliott had no red reflex in his right eye.

He was referred to Great Ormond Street Hospital for lots of tests.

Elliott is completely blind in his right eye and he will never have full sight. When he was 10 weeks old Elliott had an operation to remove the cataract and cauterise the blood vessels to hopefully stop them doing any more damage.

Karlene said: “The care Elliott received at GOSH has been incredible. It does amazing things for so many children and it has had a big impact on Ryan. He would like to say a big thank-you to everyone for all the support and donations he has received.”
