Bexhill Charleston dancers fall short of world record

The attempt to reclaim the Guinness World Record for the most Charleston dancers fell just short at the Roaring 20s event in Bexhill today (Saturday, July 23).

More than 977 dancers were needed to retake the record but only 825 were managed at the De La Warr Pavilion.

But the organisers will be pleased to have significantly improved on last year’s total of 503 Charleston performers and it will not spoil the day of 1920s fun.

Bexhill smashed the world record at last year’s event but in October, the record was broken with 977 dancers at Spitalfields, east London.

The town has been filled with huge variety of turn-of-the-century entertainment all day with more to come this afternoon.
