Bexhill Christian musical raises £625 for charity

Christian Voices’ musical The Miraculous Birth was in aid of Sasbah and was performed in churches across the area.

Sasbah deputy manager Claire Bryant said: “We were delighted to be chosen to benefit from monies raised by Christian Voices and the increased awareness – both so vital to lesser known charities.

“We are tremendously grateful for all their efforts through the performances of The Miraculous Birth which will help support our work with young families in the area, which includes our monthly local community group.”

The play was performed at Ninfield Methodist Church, St Martha’s Church, Christchurch Methodist Church, St Michael’s Church, Christ the King Church, Eastbourne and St Peter’s Community Centre.

Christchurch’s Barry Turnwell said: “It was a very worthwhile presentation.

“The play was very well written and acted, and the singers and musicians played an important part as they brought the story together so well.

“With the plays they present, Christian Voices bring the Bible stories to life and this is very important.”

The play was written by Alan Young, of St Martha’s Church and the songs were composed by Dave Chamberlin of All Saints Church.

Director Caroline Cox, of St Peter’s, said: “My idea was to perform the play in modern-day dress to not only enhance the script and music, but hopefully to highlight to audiences what it would mean for us in today’s terms. I hope it paid off.

“I was certainly very happy with the result from the actors and audiences alike.”

Anyone affected by spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus, including friends and family members, are welcome to join Sasbah on the first Friday of the month, from 12-2pm, at Sidley Community Centre.

Activities are provided for children during the school holidays and a light lunch is provided.
