Bexhill College swimmers success

Bexhill College Sports Academy gave a great account of themselves when they braved the elements to travel to Gloucester to compete in the National Relay Swimming Championships.

Featuring only the top 16 schools and colleges competitors from each discipline, qualifying for the finals is an achievement in itself.

The team were led by Kieran Cahill and Sean Collins with Paul Heskett from the Seagulls on standby to lend a hand with coaching. They were up very early and on the snowy roads for 6am, which wasn't ideal preparation but morale was good in the team.

On the day, the girls '“ who had finished 12th place in qualifying for the freestyle '“ managed another excellent 12th place finish. While in the medley, despite taking the 16th and last qualifying place, they pushed themselves up to 14th on the day.

The boys' medley had also qualified in 16th but finished 14th too. The freestyle team surpassed their own expectations by finishing 11th having qualified in 16th.

When put into context, competing against Private Schools who specialise in swimming and offer swimming scholarships, the results look even better.

Kieran said "We were delighted to qualify. It was a really good day, the students had a great time and there was plenty of banter which helped with the long journey! We were up against schools that teach the Olympic hopefuls so we did exceptionally well"

The team were: Sophie White, Megan Williams, Catherine Welford, Tillie Milton, Tom Heskett, Todd Alsop, Matt Boyce and Joe Slaughter.
