The Heart of Sidley ‘community clean up’ team were in action once again, clearing a large area by Glovers Lane and Buckholt Lane on Thursday, May 28.

The grassy area they cleared is used by many families and was suggested by a member of the public as being in desperate need of attention.

Heart of Sidley chairman Jay Carroll said the monthly clean-ups make a real difference to the area and everyone enjoys them too, helping to bring the community together.

“These clean up days are so important to our village,” she said.

“They have such wide benefits.

“Not only do they make a massive visual difference to the area, keeping public spaces tidy and accessible, but they bring the community together.

“Everyone has had a fantastic time, coming together, doing something worthwhile and at the same time discussing other differences they could make in the village.

The volunteers brought litter pickers, shovels, brooms and strimmers, then rolled up their sleeves and set to work.

The team cut the long grass, cleared away sacks of litter, weeded and trimmed grass verges and even scrubbed the street signage, leaving the ground looking neat and clean ready to be enjoyed once again by the residents.

The 1st Sidley All Saints Scouts joined the volunteers and were a huge help as the boys and girls gave it their all to really make a difference, a Heart of Sidley spokesman said.

Staff from housing association AmicusHorizon also gave up their time to support the event and help with the clear up.
