Bexhill High students collaborate with Hastings Museum

BEXHILL High School students have been making a big impact on Hastings Museum.

Around 25 students attended the launch of the museum's poetry project last year when famous trio Grace Nichols, John Agard and Imtiaz Dharker performed poems they had written about artefacts at the museum.

The pupils enjoyed the event so much a partnership was formed between the school and the museum.

"The Year 10 students were then set a project to study a group of poems and spent a day at the museum looking at various artefacts and writing in response to them," explained Caroline Mortlock, deputy principal.

Poet Imtiaz Dharker chose her favourite seven poems written by the pupils, from which the museum has designed, printed and published as a fold-out leaflet.

"The leaflet looks fabulous and I am proud of all the students who took part," said Caroline.

"It is the result of some real hard work and creativity on behalf of all the pupils. They all did so well."

The seven students whose work features on the leaflet are: Jackson Tigwell, Alex Hunt, Sarah Kohler, Chloe Knott, Catriona Dennis, Emily Lindsay and Emily Peters.
