A community group, which has existed for more than 80 years, could fold unless new committee members can be found.
Bexhill Horticultural Society, which has almost 300 members, was founded in 1929 and needs a new chairman, vice-chairman and membership secretary, as all three current members in their respective roles intend to step down.
The organisation has been trying to get new committee members to fill the posts for some time without success.
Mick Gregory, vice-chairman, said: “The chairman who has been in post for almost six years is standing down, likewise me after 10 years in my role, is standing down, and the membership secretary is leaving to spend more time with her family. There is no animosity within the society, just a time for change of leadership and new blood. No one has come forward to fill posts. Sadly, this means the society will have to close at the next AGM if there are no offers.”
Pat Reilly, chairman, said: “We have not got the back up in the community that we have had in previous years. When I joined all the positions were filled. In the past we have been able to replace people when others have stepped down.
“It’s a bit heart-breaking. I have given it as much as I can. I would hate to see the society fold on my watch. But we are desperate for people to come forward and work with us throughout the year.”
A meeting is being held on October 3 to discuss the society’s future. Anyone interested in taking over any of the three posts should ring Pat on 01424 210770.
