Bexhill launches Festive lights campaign

"NEVER again!" That's the message behind a campaign to overcome last year's Bexhill Christmas lights fiasco.

The Regeneration Partnership's town centre and tourism action group has gained Rother council support for a 93,000 (plus VAT) scheme to see Bexhill well into the next decade.

The chosen scheme has been proposed by Blachere Wonderland Illumination UK Limited.

With Observer support, the action group is launching a five-week Making Bexhill Brighter campaign to raise 30,000 of match-funding needed before an order can be placed for the lights.

"The town centre regeneration action group considered the appalling public and media reaction to last year's Christmas lights fiasco, when we were the laughing stock of the South East," says Western Road trader Phil Morris.

A SPECIAL Making Bexhill Brighter account has been set up at the NatWest Bank to which anyone can contribute. Donations may also be made at the following collecting points:

*The Bexhill Observer office in Sackville Road

*The Tourist Information Centre at Marina

*Abbott and Abbott estate agents, Devonshire Road.
