A nanny has scooped a top award overseas in her profession.
Helen McCarthy was named as the 2016 INA Nanny of the Year at a recent ceremony in the USA.
Helen, who grew up in Bexhill, attending King Offa School and Bexhill High, said: “I’m very honoured to receive the award, especially as it’s never gone outside of the USA in its 27-year history.
“I received a plaque which gives me the title for the next year.”
Helen, who works in Chelsea and now lives in Roehampton, said in order to be entered for the accolade, she had to fill out a questionnaire and submit a 60-page portfolio, outlining references and employment history. She was one of five finalists competing for the award, three of whom were from the USA and one from Australia.
The award was presented to Helen by last year’s recipient, Marly Higgins Driskell.
Marcia Hall, president of the International Nanny Association (INA), said: “The media often portrays nannies as something other than they really are. By educating the media, parents and the public on what a true professional nanny is, it is our hope families will make better choices regarding childcare for their children.
“The INA Nanny of the Year spotlights an outstanding nanny, one that exemplifies all the best qualities that a nanny can strive for. Helen is a wonderful example and will be a superb ambassador for our industry.”
Helen has been working as a professional nanny for 25 years and is a nanny, newborn care specialist and childcare consultant. She has devoted her career to caring for children at all stages of life with all levels of needs.
She also organises weekly meet-ups for nannies with their charges and this year planned London’s first National Nanny Training Day event in April.
