Bexhill remembers

A service to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Britain will be held at St Michael's church in Glassenbury Drive.

The service will be held at midday on Sunday September 26 and will also mark the 80th anniversary of the building of the church.

The Bexhill branch of the Royal Air Force Association has joined forces with St Michael's to produce a two day programme of events leading up to this service.

These will reflect life in Bexhill during the historic conflict.

RAFA members have contributed to these events which was why it was decided that the annual Battle of Britain commemorative service would be held at St Michael's.

Many local ex-service associations will be represented on the day and will be parading their standards; the Air Training Corps will also play an active part in the ceremony. The Chairman of Rother District Council Councillor Robert Elliston, The Town Mayor Councillor Jimmy Carroll, and representatives of the Charter Trustees of Bexhill will be present.

The RAFA has been active in Bexhill for over sixty years serving past and present members of the RAF and their dependants. Membership of the RAFA Albatross Club, situated in a very good position in the marina near to the promenade and the shops, is open to all. Applications for associate membership can be made at the club and are welcome. www.bexhillrafa.co.uk
