Big Toddle at Cygnets Childcare Centre

IT WAS BILLED as, 'one small step for a Toddler, one giant leap for Toddlekind', and taking centre stage, putting their best foot forward for the 'Barnado's Big Toddle', were children, parent's and staff of Egerton Park's Cygnets childcare centre.

Cygnets deputy manager Lisa Rogers said they decided on a water theme for this years toddle and many arrived in a colourful variety of costumes, dressed as fireman, pirates and sailors.

The Big Toddle, now in it's twelfth year, raises money for local Barnardo's projects, 'working with disadvantaged young children, through play schemes for children with disabilities, family centres and parenting classes.'

Lisa believes that it is an important event for both the parents and children taking part.

She said: "This helps teach children from an early age that there are children, both in the UK and other countries, who are less fortunate than they are. It's also nice that parents come along and are able to help and participate and to have an active role in helping underpriveleged children; it's's a nice fun filled day."

The sponsored toddle consisted of two laps around Egerton park ending with refreshments in a specially erected gazebo.

This is the second year that the Cygnets childcare centre have participated in the Barnardo's Big Toddle and whilst it will be a few days before the total of the amount raised today will be known, the previous years' events raised approximately 600.
