BMX boys to the rescue

Two BMX riders did not hesitate when they saw an elderly gentleman fall outside the supermarket in Cooden Sea Road.

James Vaughan and George Stinson went immediately over to see if he needed help and proud mother Nikki Vaughan, of Fontwell Avenue, told the Observer: "They went over to see if he was okay - he had fallen into one of the flower beds just outside the Coop, he just stumbled and fell. The boys got him up before any adults came over.

"BMX boys don't often get a good press - that's why I wanted to say what they had done.

"James didn't even tell me...a friend of mine said, I'm sure that was James who helped an old man the other day.

"James wasn't even going to tell me originally."

Her 14 year old son is a pupil at St Richard's college, while George is 13 and attends Bexhill High School.

James commented: "We just thought he had tripped or something so we went over to help him up. We didn't think much of it - just it was the kind thing to do.

"With BMX bikers most elderly people just think we are yobs hanging around the streets but we'd be ready to help again."
