A Bexhill gymnastics group has received £1,000 in much needed funding from a Kent business under its Community Champions scheme.

Maidstone-based Persimmon Homes South East has handed over a cheque to 1066 Gymnastics to help with new facilities at its gym.

The group says it will use the donation to install disco lighting to give teenagers Friday and Saturday night indoor training disco events. It has set a target of £2,500 for the installation of the system.

The group is the latest charity to receive funding from the housebuilder. In total £24,000 will be donated by Persimmon Homes’ South East region by March 2016. It is a slice of £750,000 that is being given away by the company nationally.

Matte Hart, spokesman for 1066 Gymnastics, said: “So far we have raised £1,500 through sleepovers in the gym with the teenagers who come to our freestyle sessions.

“We are always trying to find new ways of engaging with the local young community and we are confident that regular gym discos will be very popular and help us attract more participants aged 16 and over. We are thankful for Persimmon Homes’ kind donation.”

Jo Richards, head of sales Persimmon Homes South East, said: “1066 Gymnastics is making great efforts to reach out to more people in the community.

“The club needed £1,000 to meet its target and I’m delighted we have helped it hit the £2,500 mark. It means more people will be able to enjoy the sessions that it provides.

“Persimmon Homes South East has had a fantastic response to its Community Champions scheme and it is always a difficult choice from so many worthy causes. If people were unsuccessful last month, we urge them to visit the Persimmon Homes website and to try again and hopefully they will become our next Community Champion. Visit”
