British Red Cross coffee morning

THE BRITISH Red Cross held a coffee morning at Thalia House, Bexhill on Saturday.

Many stalls offered a variety of items including bric a brac, jewellery, clothes, a raffle, tombola, and homemade cakes; teas, coffees and biscuits were available for those who preferred to sit and chat.

Anyone saving for a rainy day had the opportunity to purchase a colourful piggy bank from a wide range on display. A large collection had been kindly donated by a local resident.

With just over 73 raised for the Red Cross, centre organiser, Rosemary Barry said that along with raising much needed funds the coffee mornings are also, "a social occasion for people in the local area to get together and chat."

The money raised goes to good use for a wide variety of needs, which Rosemary said is, "within the local community, helping people home from hospital, escorting and transportation, medical equipment loans, and tracing missing people etc.."

Aid is also badly needed to help with the relief effort in Burma and China, and Rosemary said the Red Cross have supplies near the area's concerned.
