Cafe Belge on TV

RESTAURATEURS Gary and Janet Bush are eagerly watching Meridian Television on Tuesday nights.

Last year their Cafe Belge chain was picked from among the top restaurants in the south east to feature in Meridian's Taste Of The South series.

A film crew spent three and a half hours at the business. But Meridian were unable at that stage to say when the five-part series would be screened.

The first of Taste Of The South was televised on Tuesday. But Gary and Janet still do not know in which of the episodes their business will be featured.

Gary and Janet founded the Cafe Belge chain with their Bexhill restaurant at Marina. The business has now expanded to six restaurants with a seventh already planned.

Filming took place at their Canterbury restaurant, featuring chef Julian Coward at work. Julian started with the business at the Bexhill restaurant.

Delighted Gary said this week that he and Janet couldn't wait to see their business featured on television.

"They recorded it last year. But they didn't know when it would go out. They rang us three or four weeks ago to say it was starting on Tuesday. But they still can't say in which of the five we will be featured.

"They filmed a full-scale interview about the way we do things including preparing a big wild bream for cooking."

The Cafe Belge chain is noted for having more than 50 ways of serving mussels in its repertoire and for its extensive rang of Belgian beers.

Gary said: "It is fantastic recognition for us.

"To be picked from among the 20 best restaurants in the South East is just fantastic."
