Campaigners were left disappointed rail chief have ignored their pleas after cuts to Bexhill Railway Station’s ticket office opening hours were confirmed yesterday (Wednesday, June 15).
Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR), which runs the Southern franchise, is proposing to reduce the opening hours of ticket offices, with passengers instead buying their tickets from self-service machines or ‘station hosts’ located on concourses.
The Bexhill Rail Action Group (BRAG) opposed the idea when GTR consulted earlier this year and the confirmation was blasted by the group.
“BRAG is disappointed that Southern/GTR has not listened to the views of stakeholders, the majority of whom expressed concerns about these proposals,” a BRAG spokesman said.
“We shall be keeping a close eye on how they are implemented in practice, and the impact on local passengers.
“If necessary, we shall be contacting higher authorities if we believe the operator is failing to deliver a proper service or is in breach of its franchise commitments.”
