The Cinnamon Trust is a charity which seeks to keep owner and pet together for as long as possible with the help of a national network of volunteers who assist when day to day care poses a problem.

Tanya Swanson, from the charity, said: “We urgently need dog walking volunteers in St Leonards who are able to offer some much needed walks for a lovely eight year old Dachshund who would love to go for a good walk.

“Our aim is to relieve the owners of any worry concerning the welfare of their pets both during and after their own lifetime making us unique amongst charities.

“What happens if illness, injury or just the fact that we all get older affects our ability to look after our four legged companions?

“Elderly or ill pet owners become very worried about their ability to care for their pets, and feel that their only option is to rehome them, this is where our national network of dedicated volunteers step in to offer support enabling them to stay together.

We’ll walk the dog for a housebound owner, we’ll foster pets when owners need hospital care, we’ll fetch the cat food, even clean out the bird cage or litter trays.

“All volunteers help in the ways that are most appropriate to them.

“Teams take it in turn to visit housebound owners, to take dogs for daily walks, volunteers foster pets as one of their family when owners face a spell in hospital, they take pets to the vet, clean the budgie’s cage out. We take any problem posed in day to day care of pets.

“Any help anyone is able to give to this St Leonards resident will be very gratefully accepted.

“We always need new volunteers even if you can only spare an hour a week we would love to hear from you.”
