Cavalcade of cars

THE term 'Easter bonnet' took on a double meaning in the town on Monday.

Taking on an idea first proposed by Town Mayor, Cllr Eric Armstrong the Bexhill 100 Motoring Club formed a cavalcade of cars each with seasonal decoration on their bonnets.

Drivers also dressed up in a more traditional way by sporting outrageous hats.

Fine bank holiday weather ensured a large crowd for the event as around 40 cars made their way along the seafront from Galley Hill to the town centre.

Cllr Armstrong was on hand to judge the best decorated vehicle, with his wife Jeanette deciding which competitor had the best hat.

Club secretary Fiona Hemsworth said: "It was just such a lovely idea and we decided to go with it.

"We have some lovely cars and we are just so pleased with everybody who has taken part in it. We have everything from the sensible to the wacky. I made paper flowers for my car and had to sew every one on. It has only taken about five weeks!"

"I have lots of ideas," joked Cllr Armstrong. "It's just the Bexhill 100 Club are some of the only people who listen!

"It is actually great and hopefully this will be a yearly thing."
