Challenge for Bexhill rowers

This morning ten rowers from Bexhill College will try to break the 100,000 metre world record on a rowing machine. This massive effort begins at 10am in Devonshire Square and it is hoped the team will complete within the time of 5.5 hours.

The event is a joint effort with Row4Charity which aims to back four rowers in their bid to compete in the Indian Ocean race next year but also raise money for The Stroke Association.

Matt Hellier, who is also a tutor at Bexhill College, has been involved in a number of fundraising activities recently and will be supporting the challengers all day and giving the public opportunity to look at the Row4Charity boat on display from 9am-10pm.

Matt said: "We are throwing a big sports themed party in Walkers friday night starting at 5pm..... with a live DJ, a chance to try the Row4Charity cocktail, charity shots and a raffle for a bottle of Champagne.

"Outside in the Square we will be kicking off at 7pm with live music from Norman Levene. At 7:30pm Diamond Dance will be performing a street dance for us and at 8pm Magician Richard Bellars will be amazing people in and around Walkers, plus jugglers in the square at the same time.

"Most importantly from 9 in the morning till 10 at night our new ocean rowing boat will be on show in the square.

"As you all know, a lot of hard work has gone into getting the boat, so would love to see you all there at some point for its first public launch."

Last Saturday saw Bexhill Rowing Clubs End of season party where Matt, having organised a charity wax the previous week, was surprised when the other Row4Charity lads arranged for the favour to be returned. Matt was waxed himself which raised 155 for the Stroke Association.

He commented: "We need to say a big thank you to Steve Doswell who price-matched it to make it 310."
