Chantry, Ninfield lead local primary schools in tables

BEXHILL primary schools have had their progress announced to the public with the publishing of league tables.

The tables list the percentage of pupils achieving 'level 4' in Maths, Science and English at Key Stage 2 - the expected level for the age group.

The town's 11-year-olds sat the tests in May.

The top-placed Bexhill school is Chantry Community Primary which is ranked in 31st place within its local education authority (LEA).

The school scored 88 per cent for English, 88 per cent for Maths and 96 per cent for Science.

Ninfield Primary School ranked just behind in 32nd place.

The lowest results were to be found at Sidley Community Primary School where 48 per cent of pupils achieved level four in Maths. However students at the school scored 71 per cent for English and 76 per cent for Science.

Sidley also had the highest truancy rating of Bexhill schools at 1.3 per cent of half days missed. The lowest was St Mary Magdalene's Catholic Primary School at 0.1 per cent.

Little Common head teacher David Pratt, spoke on behalf of the Bexhill Consortium of Schools.

He said: "Bexhill schools are working hard to support each other and helping all of the children in the town to achieve the best that they can.

"We will be looking carefully at our results to see where we can improve in future."

Mr Pratt concluded pupils should also have their achievements in fields such as sport, music and other studies taken into account.

"None of which is reflected in these league tables, " he added.
