Charters Ancaster becomes a top flight school

Charters Ancaster Primary School in Bexhill was one of only two schools from the south east of England taking part in this year's "Flight Challenge" organised by the British Model Flying Association.

This competition, involving over 30 schools, was held in a vast new hanger recently built at the Imperial War Museum, Duxford, Cambridgeshire.

Two teams of year 5 & 6 pupils took part in this hectic competition.

They had to fly three different model aircraft, one after another continuously for 30 gruelling minutes while timekeepers clocked every flight.

The total flying time gave the overall score.

Rewinding or replacing rubber motors and any quick repairs all had to be done in double quick time.

Considering the fact that this was the first time they had taken part, Charters Ancaster pupils did exceptionally well to be placed 4th and 5th in the Junior Competition.

They were all presented with a gold medal.

After the competition pupils were able to visit the fantastic displays of aircraft.

Claire Younger, aged 11, had a list of early jet fighters her grandfather had flown and was thrilled to find them all in the museum.
