The competition is organised by Rother Voluntary Action and Head of Services and Projects, Jan Cutting, says the event is part of a bigger picture. “We are doing this competition as part of the Clean Seas Please campaign in order to raise awareness amongst dog walkers that not picking poo up from the beach, or streets, means that it goes directly into the sea, contributing to the levels of bacteria that there are there,” she said. “When the new EU Directive on bathing water quality comes into force this year there is a possibility that some beaches will not pass the new standard, this includes Hastings.”

The winner will receive a £20 voucher for Eat @The Stade and other doggy gifts. To enter the competition submit a photo of your dog on Hastings or Bexhill beach along with your name, your dogs name, when and where you took the photo and the best way to contact you, to: [email protected]

Deadline for sunbissions is September 16. The winner will be announced on September 19.This Sunday (September 13) there is a dog walk at 10am. Meet at the Bathing Hut Cafe, West St Leonards.
