Diggers arrived on Monday (January 18) to clear the piles of rubble and rubbish.

In November, 2014, Red Barn Developments Ltd was granted planning permission to build a block of 40 flats, plus one concierge flat, with underground car parking on the site.

The Grand Hotel was gutted in a major fire in 2003. But it took until 2007 for the derelict building to be demolished. The plot has stood vacant ever since.
