College students are able tohelp housing staff to relax
Beauty and catering students from Sussex Coast College Hastings were on hand to help when Southdown Housing Association held a day of relaxation and well-being for their staff at the Azur.
The specialist providers of housing and support enlisted the help of beauty and catering students from Sussex Coast College Hastings, to ensure that their staff were pampered and energised.
A total of 120 members of staff came along to the Azur on Thursday April 21 to enjoy a range of activities focused on health and wellbeing, among which, there were Zumba classes, meditation sessions, pilates, and smoothie making stands to get involved with.
Fifteen Level 2 beauty students set up a mobile salon to offer manicures, hand and arm massages, as well as nail shaping and polishing.
A group of Level 2 hospitality and catering students set up a tasting and demo stall to promote healthy eating.
The Housing association staff were able to try treats such as poached chicken Bao buns, with a selection of steamed vegetables and healthy salsas.
The catering students then gave demonstrations on how to flavour foods by using alternatives to sugar and salt; before serving a buffet-lunch.
Andrea Mepham, Beauty Lecturer at Sussex Coast College Hastings said: “The students were extremely professional performing the treatments and promoting the salons and courses available at Station Plaza.
“The treatments that they were offering were eagerly received by the staff.”
“It was a very beneficial day for the students and I hope Southdown Housing Association will keep us in mind for any other well-being days they host in the future.”
Southdown was established in 1972 and is one of the largest not-for-profit specialist providers of care, support and housing services for vulnerable people in Sussex.
The Association supports over 8,000 people a year, employing over 950 staff.
