Conmen pose as TalkTalk staff

Conmen have been phoning residents in Rother posing as TalkTalk staff.

Earlier this month, a cyber attack on the telecommunications company’s database put the banking details of four million households at risk.

Since then, TalkTalk customers across the UK have been targeted by fraudsters exploiting the hacked data.

One household in Bexhill reported receiving a phonecall from scammers on Monday (October 26).

The person on the other end of the line claimed the resident’s computer was sending out ‘error messages’ and urged him to follow his instructions to ‘solve the problem’.

Another resident, who lives in rural Rother, was called by the fraudsters last Friday (October 23).

They told her they needed access to her computer.
She said: “At the time I asked for the relevant details to confirm they were from TalkTalk and they had all our information.

“I went onto my computer which luckily wouldn’t allow me to do the things they wanted me to but they said they would send a filter through to my hub in a hour which would solve the problem.

“The hour passed so I contacted TalkTalk direct who then advised me it wasn’t them but the fraudsters.”

Sussex Police were unable to comment on how many people had received such calls.

But the force has issued advice to people who may have been affected by the security breach, urging them to change online passwords or pin numbers immediately, keep an eye on their bank accounts and contact credit check agencies mentioned on the TalkTalk website.
