Creative writing competition to mark Battle of Hastings milestone

The competition is being organised as part of the town’s wider commemorations of the 950th anniversary of the Battle of Hastings.

The theme of the competition will be ‘Battle 2066’.

Battle Town Council hopes that lots of people will be inspired to get creative by this important anniversary.

A trophy will be presented annually to the winner of each category during the Battle Festival in October.

Battle Books is sponsoring the event this year and is offering prizes for the winners.

The competition has been divided into three different categories. These are: School Children in 1066 Country, Years 1-6; School Children in 1066 Country, Years 7-13; and Adults residing in the Battle Town Council community. Children are invited to write no more than 1066 words, and adults are challenged to produce 1066 words precisely.

Entries may be submitted as prose, poetry or drama, and may be in any genre.

The closing date for entries is July 31 2016.
